Projects at Praxair Surface Technologies

The following is a detailed presentation of the projects, and my roles within each
*Images are publicly available.  Sources are provided within each, respectively.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead prototype design and product development of various thermal spray systems for plasma, HVOF, and wire arc.

  • Capture customer requirements and transform them into verifiable functional and performance requirements for the system and subsequent components.

  • Produce complete sets of design documentation consisting of mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, pneumatic diagrams, and software code.

  • Troubleshoot

  • Support Manufacturing during the manufacturing and assembly of prototypes.

  • Test prototypes against design requirements.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support field service with site installations and commissioning.

  • Authored revisions to the quality manual for ISO 9001:2015 Compliance.

  • Perform FMEA and safety analysis

NOTABLE ACCOMPLISHMENTS:

  • Developed the new Gaseous Fuel HVOF system which utilizes a cascaded control strategy for differential pressure orifice gas flow control.  This new strategy I developed expands operating flow ranges by allowing the subsonic flow of gasses for spray torches operating at increased backpressures.
The Previous design was limited in range because it operated in choked (supersonic) flow which limited the upstream / downstream ratio to be less than 50%.

  • Modularized software development code into reusable blocks of code that can be used for multiple applications.

TECHNICAL SKILLS:

  • Solidworks 2012,2015

GASEOUS FUEL HVOF (prototype)
(Plasma System)

BRIEF DESCRIPTION:

  • Controls gas flow to operate competitor torches

  • Utilizes non-critical orifice flow control
    (p2/p1 can now exceed .50)

  • Utilizes the benifits of orifice flow control for torches that operate at high back pressures.  Reduces supply side pressure limitations.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

I Manage product design and development for complete Thermal Spray Systems, specifically Arc Spray Equipment.  Perform decomposition of product requirements and market needs into verifiable functional and performance requirements.  Transform requirements into design and produce complete design documentation consisting of mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, pneumatic diagrams, and software code.
